Hampton Court
24 by 18 inches (605x400mm) on canvas, painted in acrylic and varnished. This picture, like the sea fight, is indistinguishable from an oil. My painting of an HM 70 gun ship of the line The Hampton Court is an unashamed copy of one of the best paintings by probably the greatest marine artist of all time, William Van de Velde the younger, 1633-1707. The original painting itself is on display in the Birmingham museum and art gallery. I painted this picture some years ago and at the time I was very pleased with the result because ships from the restoration period are smothered with decoration which made the picture particularly difficult for me. Hampton Court hangs in my studio and still gives me considerable pleasure. The painting is not for sale at the moment.
